Experience the children's history and the custom of Chalandamarz up close at the Meisser Hotel
SchellenUrsli
Schellen-Ursli in the original Rhaeto-Romanic Uorsin, is a children's story by the author Selina Chönz and the artist Alois Carigiet. It is one of the most famous picture books in Switzerland, sold over a million copies. The book was first published in 1945.
"High up in the mountains, far from here, there lives a little boy like you," the story begins. It is set in Guarda and is about the custom of Chalandamarz, which is held every year on March 1. The tradition wants that in spring the winter is driven out with the loud ringing of the bells of the Engadin children.
Museum
This is how the Schellenursli must have lived! The small museum in Guarda offers insights into different scenes of children's history. Here the Schellenursli story becomes real. Ideal for small and big visitors.
Our little museum coffee is open from 10.00 - 17.00.
Help yourself: cold and warm drinks, homemade nut cake, salsiz ham and “Schüttelbrot” (a typical hard bread from the Alp region).
