At our front door - the oldest National Park in the Alps

Back in 1914 a few committed nature lovers founded the Swiss National Park in the canton of Graubünden.

It was a small group of nature researchers who, on the 1st August 1914, founded the Swiss National Park (SNP) in the canton of Graubünden. Fritz and Paul Sarasin, Carl Schröter, Steivan Brunies and their supporters were against the unrestricted development of ever-increasing industrialisation. They wanted to preserve the natural treasures of their country, but at the same time promote and learn from them. They succeeded in doing this, as since the creation of the SNP the management has focussed on the protection of nature.
